On the topic of music...
ELLIOT MINOR, IFLU!!!
Band of the moment.
They're this really badass Indie Rock/Pop band from York, England (formerly known as The Academy) who draw influence from bands such as Jack's Mannequin & Muse which is just fab.
Have a listen to:
Time After Time
& Parallel Worlds
which are my favs from their self-titled album which has already been released (4/14)! They're a definite must-hear!
---
Now, I'm checking out The White Tie Affair of which their debut album has also been released (2/22). They're a mix of rock+pop+electronica and so far, I'm really digging them! They're climbing up into my rotation list and you can't imagine how positively psyched I am with this influx of new tunes :D
Here's:
The Enemy
& The Letdown
which I really love. Like crazy.
Wait! Electronica?!?!
Yeah. I'm shocked myself. But I think I have to thank the soundtrack from QAF and Thrice which has been experimenting with lots of music styles including this genre. Oh god, I love Thrice so much! I love how they don't have a fixed genre. Makes them oh-so-intriguing *loves*
& since I've confessed that I've dabbled with electronica, I have to say that I've been listening to it's subsets -house and dance- increasingly. Once again, I blame TV soundtracks. Always makes the music so shiny. Here's an old song (well, just the 90s) which I listen to if I just want to listen to brainless but fun music ;D
Here Comes Another One- Groove Terminator
Old school much? Haha.
OMFG. I haven't updated this blog in like forever.
For that, I'm sorry?
Truth is, I've been doing my reviews elsewhere...where I kinda have a more receptive audience and thus I've been absolutely ignoring this account (with the exception when I need to upload music here for...ahh, nevermind. It's a long story).
So, in a bid to make this site more active, I'll start back-posting a couple of bands/singers I adore. Hopefully, I'll stick around this time.

We only got four minutes to save the world
No hesitating.
Grab a boy.
Go Grab a girl4 Minutes To Save The World/Madonna
????????????
I just... I never was a fan of hers and I don't think I will ever like her.

I've found a new love.
In other words, a new band to go crazy over:
THE CAB
Whisper War- The Cab
Their debut album is kicking some serious ass! I especially love Bounce & Vegas Skies is such a beautiful song. Like, slowsweetachingly beautiful.
Here, have a listen:
It has an almost acoustic lay-back-and-chill vibe to it.
To get a different feel of what they sound like, here's I'll Run:

And since I'm all hyped up on music:
WHAT THE EFF HAPPENED TO JESSE McCARTNEY??!!??
Dude, I was in no way a fan because I thought he was too pretty boy and too clean-cut... but look at the cover of his latest album:
Departure- Jesse McCartney
Rock You (Featuring Sean Garrett):
A departure, indeed.
Just. The hair and the look and the (sorta) new sound?
I NOW HAVE NO OPINION OF HIM AT ALL.
So, this album was leaked a couple of days ago.
And since I'm not really much of a MUSE fan, I had no idea what kind of album it was until I listened to it.
Turns out that it's a LIVE album instead of an EP.
But it's still pretty kick-ass.
That's the tracklisting and the quality is sweet.
I'd much prefer it without the incessant cheering, but it sorta contributes to the atmosphere.
It's slated release is supposed to be March 17th (UK) and April 1st (US)
Who knows when it'll be released in Asia :(
But anyway, it's an awesome album.
Live performances have always been a favourite "genre" to listen to.
And when the fans start singing along to 'Starlight', it's kinda cool actually.
Get it if you're a fan.
Or if you aren't...just buy the album because MUSE just has this weird hypnotic vibe that's pretty rad.
I bet half the world and their mother are sick of this song. But, you've gotta admit that it's one of the top five songs of 2007. Hate it, love it, the mispronunciation of 'umbrella' by Rihanna (according to her, it's um-buh-reh-lla) and the following 'ella, ella, eh, eh, eh' is some pretty catchy shit.
This song is SO popular, that it's spawn off a gazillion (and counting) remakes- be it official, or just some experimentation track done on youtube.
Example: Umbrella/Cinderella (remix feat. Rihanna, Jay-Z & Chris Brown)
I admit it- I was amazingly intrigued by this song that I hunted down a bunch of takes by "professional" artists and actually made a compilation some months ago. The final track-listing on that compilation was :
And I thought I had enough.
I may possibly be the last person on earth to hear this version and you can call me lame for all I care.
The Travis Barker remix on this has gotta be one of the most kick-ass versions that ever exists .
One- You still have the original song there. I have to admit, the original version by Rihanna is the shitz. Rock it/Jazz it/Punk it up-whatever. I actually like the first take on the song, though it took me a while to get there because I found it so freaking annoying in the beginning.
Two- Drums.Travis Barker on the drums. End of story.
Three- That's it really. I just seriously dig the drums.
Yes. I'm a little bit high.
BUT, I'm not like those 'cool rockers' because I'm high on coke.
The drink.
Not the drug.
You can stand under my umbrella.
Just like the popular AOL sessions, Radio 1 has a sweet line up when it comes to bringing in up-and-coming bands. Of course, there's the ever popular Maroon 5 who performed 'Makes Me Wonder' and Coldplay who did their overplayed (but oh-so-lovely) 'The Scientist' (which was also covered by Avril Lavigne and Natasha Bedengfield).
But there are lesser-known bands like The Pigeon Detectives who seriously cracked me up with their cover of Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' and absolute surprises like Will Young's cover of 'Hey Ya' (originally by Outkast) and Corinne Bailey Rae's very jazzy/soulful take on ...'Sexyback' (Justin Timberlake) !
In this whole volume, my favourite song has got to be The Fray's cheeky version of Shakira's 'Hips Don't Lie'. The whole all-male ensemble and deadpan voice accompanied by the really funky upbeats are just a riot ;D
Volume 2 , I have to say, is much much more entertaining than Volume 1 (released back in 2006). Maybe that's because I found more familiar tunes here like 'Say It Right' (Bloc Party covering Nelly Furtado) , Rehab (Paolo Nutini covering Amy Winehouse) and of course, no 2007 compilation can be considered a proper album without a cover of Rihanna's 'Umbrella' (performed by Biffy Clyro)
So seriously, if you can grab a copy of Radio 1's Live Lounge Volume 2, do it!
Live songs are just brilliant in that they're not edited, and thus are just raw vocals and awesome songs.
Here's the track listing for both volumes if anybody is interested:
Radio 1's Live Lounge Volume 1
Radio 1's Live Lounge Volume 2
So here, I leave you with three songs from the second album; one original and two covers
- Makes Me Wonder: Maroon 5
- Girlfriend: The Pigeon Detectives
- Hips Don't Lie :The Fray
